Curious Child

Our Vision

A day will come when all children in this nation will have access to the conditions necessary to attain excellent literacy skills.

Two Friends

Our Mission

Serving the literacy needs of children from low-income and under-served communities by providing access to quality literacy instructions and educational resources and materials.

Our story

A Bit of Background

We began this journey of servant leadership, of giving back, on August 1st, 2020. We started as a free neighborhood library that served as an oasis in the book desert that many low-income communities in Nigeria are. The current state of our public primary schools and the numerous reports on the lack of literacy skills in many children from under-served communities further fuel our resolve and strengthen our commitments to do more. In just a year, we have grown to be more than a library. We're now partnered with Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in our effort to ensure every child gets access to quality instruction and resources.

Here at Read For Growth, we are driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all.

We currently serve in six communities in Nigeria and four southwestern states: Oyo, Lagos, Ogun, and Osun.

The Core Values that define our Servant Leadership

  Equity

We approach the problem of lack of access to books and quality instruction from the vantage point of equity. We believe all children are equal and should have the opportunity to attain social and economic freedom. We hold it true that no child should be held back from quality education as a result of the parents' circumstances.

  Compassion

We act with compassion in our relations with our team members and the students we serve. We operate with empathy, erring on the side of kindness, and putting ourselves in the shoes of the students, teachers and parents we work with.

 Humility

We acknowledge that our vision is ambitious and audacious, and we accept that it will take collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders from different sectors to impact the systemic changes necessary for our vision to be fulfilled. As such we're

open to partnerships, continuous learning, and constructive feedback. We do not think our approach is the all and be all out there. We hold ourselves accountable to our pledges and commitments.

  Faith

We’re rooted in faith. We believe establishing equitable access to quality education is rooted in the concept of justice and fairness. Thus we see      solving the problem of illiteracy in our communities as a collective duty and a lifelong commitment. We believe beautiful changes do happen when good people get to work.

Community

We are firm believers in the interdependence of humans and how we’re interconnected as a society. We believe in the power of the collective and give importance to building meaningful relationships and working together for a better future of all. We see all children as our children and believe that the success of a child will impact other children of that community. We live the adage that it takes a village to raise a child. We are part of the village.
